Barnsley FC issue Coronavirus update

BARNSLEY have confirmed that their under-23 and under-18s games this weekend will both be played behind closed doors at Oakwell - as they continue to take precautions in the light of the Coronavirus outbreak.

The club have issued an update amid the Covid-19 crisis and have put a number of restrictions in place ahead of first team and academy games scheduled to take place this weekend.

A statement read: At the time of writing, Gerhard Struber’s first team are set to visit Queens Park Rangers and the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Measures established prior to the Sky Bet Championship fixture against Cardiff City will remain in place, meaning players will be unable to physically interact with supporters.

"Friday’s U23s’ fixture against Bolton Wanderers, at Oakwell, will take place, as will Saturday’s U18s’ development squad fixture against Sheffield Wednesday. However, please note that they will be played at Oakwell behind closed doors. No parents, spectators or outside agencies will be allowed to attend.

"Due to current movement restrictions, all other junior fixtures, including the U16s’ game against Sheffield Wednesday and Reds In The Community programmes will be postponed until further notice.

"Barnsley FC will continue to seek advice from the relevant authorities and will update supporters with further developments."
