Hull City take 'keen interest' in Barnsley FC's Reyes Cleary with Sheffield United and Swansea City 'watching'

Hull City are the latest club to have been credited with interest in Barnsley winger Reyes Cleary.

The 21-year-old was snapped up by Barnsley last summer, making the move to South Yorkshire from West Bromwich Albion.

He has since weighed in with six goals and 15 assists over the course of 44 appearances, fuelling talk of a move further up the pyramid.

There was strong interest in Cleary in the winter window, but the transfer deadline passed with the jet-heeled wideman still on the books at Oakwell. Speculation, however, has refused to die down.

Hull City linked with Barnsley winger

According to reporter Alan Nixon via his Patreon page, Hull are taking a keen interest in the former England youth international.

The Tigers have been operating under a transfer embargo this term but will be able to splash the cash in the upcoming summer window.

Sheffield United, Swansea City and Preston North End, meanwhile, are all said to have been watching Cleary in action.

There has previously been talk of interest from Cleary’s former club West Brom, as well as Blackburn Rovers and Bristol City.

Reyes Cleary’s Barnsley future

Barnsley’s inability to challenge for promotion near the League One summit has intensified fears among the Oakwell faithful that Cleary may have to be sold.

His departure would be a bitter blow for Reds boss Conor Hourihane, who spoke in late December of his desire to build around the club’s most coveted assets.

He said: “We went a little bit younger at times in the summer to really get exciting players and to create assets. We're delighted obviously to have them and we want to keep having them.

“Hopefully, come the end of the window, they're here, because that's what I want - I want to build around these players. But [we] understand the moment that we're in as well in terms of, if something does happen, we'll approach that in the right way.”
