Woodrow had been the subject of interest from the Bluebirds during the final week of the deadline, but the Welsh outfit - whose valuation of the former Fulham forward was considerably lower that than of Barnsley - pulled out of the race.

The 25-year-old is now contracted to the club until the summer of 2023.

On his new deal, Woodrow said: "I know there’s been a lot of speculation recently about my future, but as soon as I heard that Barnsley were offering me a new contract, it was something I was keen on doing.

"Last season we managed to stay in the Championship, which was a massive achievement for us, but now we all want to kick and do well this season. I’m happy to secure my future here and I look forward to the years ahead."

Reds chief executive officer Dane Murphy added: "A number of clubs have shown significant interest in Cauley over this transfer window and having fended off the attention, we are delighted that he has signed a new contract.

"I went on record earlier this summer stating that the club wanted to retain the core of this squad for the current season.

"The club has done its best to achieve that and now I look forward to seeing Cauley getting back to doing what he does best, scoring goals."
