THE future of Barnsley winger Reyes Cleary has taken another twist amid unconfirmed reports that he has handed in a transfer request in a bid to force a move away from Oakwell.

Cleary's situation has been the subject of considerable speculation throughout 2026.

The Yorkshire Post understands that Bristol City, linked with Cleary earlier this summer, have made a renewed move to try and sign him.

The winger, contracted at the club until the summer of 2029, burst onto the scene with a spectacular goal at Bradford City last autumn and showcased his talents in front of a watching audience with an impressive display in the Reds' FA Cup exit at Liverpool in January.

Speaking at a fans' forum in January, chairman Neerav Parekh revealed that the club had turned down four bids for their star winger from two different Championship clubs.

The Reds supremo went onto insist that the club would not sell Cleary 'on the cheap', while adding that there was 'a price for everyone obviously', while understandably being keen to retain him.

It is understood that Barnsley have not received a satisfactory offer fitting in with their valuation of the player as it stands.

Rumours linking second-tier clubs with the former West Brom man have continued throughout the summer window.

Blackburn Rovers - a club who saw bids rebuffed in the winter window - have been interested in the 22-year-old for some time.

Erroneous social media reports last month suggested that Cleary had been seen at Bristol City’s training ground. They were subsequently rubbished by his parent club.

Millwall were also linked with the player earlier in the summer. Other clubs including Sheffield United have also been linked with him.

Cleary crowned an excellent performance with a goal in last weekend's 3-1 win at Leyton Orient.
