Barnsley set to land Newcastle striker Ranger

Barnsley are set to sign Newcastle striker Nile Ranger on loan ahead of their Championship match against Doncaster.

The club said in a statement on their official website that a proposed deal will keep Ranger at Oakwell until January 14 and will bolster a strikeforce that includes Danny Haynes, Reuben Noble-Lazarus and Craig Davies.

The 20-year-old was given his Magpies debut in 2009 and made 12 appearances for England Under-18s, scoring six goals.

However, Ranger has not featured for the Barclays Premier League side this year and has had off-the-field issues.
