Barnsley's Jordan Williams on massive impact on 'new signings' Josh Benson and Luke Thomas

JOSH BENSON and Luke Thomas may not be new signings at Barnsley, but their re-emergence in terms of early-season form after tough previous times in their Reds careers has generated that effect.

That's the belief of several, including defender Jordan Williams, who feels that the pair's upturn and confidence rush augurs well for the weeks and months ahead as Barnsley seek to get back on an even keel following relegation last term.

Williams, speaking ahead of the League One home game with Bristol Rovers, said: "They have always had the talent. It has just been a bit of confidence. It is coming out now and the gaffer is letting them express themselves. They have done well so far and hopefully they can keep playing well.

"It is massive for the club and if they are doing well, it is going to make the team better. As long as every individual is doing as well as they can, it is going to be better for the team and club.

"I have lost a few friends (leaving the club), but in football that's going to happen. It's part and parcel of the game and have to live with it.

"We have got some new faces in now and they are doing well and there's still time in the window to add a few more faces and we can do well."

Williams was part of a Barnsley side who dominated in the second half of Saturday's narrow loss at promotion favourites Derby County and while he is the first to admit that the Reds are still not at their optimum levels, he feels that there has been progress from the opening-day reverse at Plymouth.

He continued: "We worked very hard and fought until the end and on another day, we could have definitely come away with a point. The confidence is still high from the game, even though we lost.

"Putting them on the back foot gives us a lot of belief. But it is a results business and tough to come away with anything.

"It is a process we are going under and it won't happen overnight. But once we get it right, it will be right and the difference from the first day of the season to Saturday was evident."
