Beckham rejects Premier League offers to sign for PSG

David Beckham stole the show on deadline day after signing a five-month contract with Paris St Germain.

Beckham, 37, revealed his PSG salary will be donated to a children’s charity in Paris.

He turned down numerous other offers, including from England, and said: “I’m very honoured by the offers I had from other Premier League clubs but I didn’t want to play there unless it was for Manchester United.”

In the Premier League, QPR boss Harry Redknapp hailed the record signing of defender Christopher Samba for an undisclosed fee but a move for Stoke striker Peter Crouch receded.

Samba, the former Blackburn centre-back, moved from Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala after QPR triggered his a release clause believed to be more than £10m.

Leaving QPR is midfielder Alejandro Faurlin, who has joined Palermo on loan.

In the most bizarre incident of the day, West Brom striker Peter Odemwingie drove to London and addressed a waiting media scrum which made comments to suggest he was set to seal a deal to Rangers.

But he was immediately contradicted by West Brom who issued a statement to say he had not been granted permission.

Sunderland also swooped for a new striker and have completed the signing of Danny Graham from Swansea for £5m. The striker has signed a three-and-a-half-year deal at the Stadium of Light, and Louis Saha has left the Black Cats by mutual consent.

Wigan have confirmed the signing of Paul Scharner on loan from Hamburg for the rest of the season.

Scharner is returning to the DW Stadium having spent more than four years with the Latics before leaving for West Brom in the summer of 2010.

AC Milan’s utility player Urby Emanuelson has joined Fulham on loan until the end of the season. The 26-year-old, a left-sided full-back or midfielder, has 16 caps for Holland and played for Cottagers boss Martin Jol during his time at Ajax.

Aston Villa have announced the signing of French midfielder Yacouba Sylla from Ligue 2 side Clermont Foot.

Tottenham goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes, meanwhile, headed for German side Hoffenheim on loan for the rest of the season.

Last night Arsenal signed Malaga’s Spain international full-back Nacho Monreal, in a deal believed to be worth around £8.3 million, altough neither club would confirm that figure.

Manchester City also confirmed that Mario Balotelli has completed his move to AC Milan, signing a four-and-a-half-year contract – the fee is understood to be £19m.

Elsewhere, Liverpool goalkeeper Alexander Doni is returning to his native Brazil to join Botafogo on a free transfer while Newcastle confirmed they have completed the signing of Swiss 17-year-old defender Kevin Mbabu from Servette for an undisclosed fee.

Before deadline day, Premier League clubs had spent around £85m on acquiring new players, according to analysts Deloitte, already almost three times the amount spent at the same time last year.
