The loanee from Preston North End had to be susbtituted during the weekend draw at Port Vale with an injury that is believed to have been aggravated by City having to train recently on all-weather pitches while the club’s Apperley Bridge headquarters was out of action following the floods.

Reid is set to see surgeon Steve Bollen later today and is a major doubt for tomorrow night’s derby game at home to Barnsley.

The City manager said this lunchtime: “Kyel is seeing the specialist with his knee. It has just flared up a little bit over the last week or so.

“It is his cruciate knee but it is not a major problem. (Physio) Matt (Barrass) thinks it might be training on the artificial turf might have irritated it.

“He is going to see Steve Bollen this afternoon. We took him out of training today. We wil see what Steve says but we might have to manage him through this period to get it right.”

Jamnes Hanson is available to face Barnsley, while Luke James is also in the squad amid speculation the loanee may switch to Hartlepool United.

Parkinson added: “James still here at the moment. One or two clubs been trying to do a deal between ourselves and Peterborough but it hasn’t quite fallen into place yet.”
