Bradford City CEO Ryan Sparks on why he won't 'lose too much sleep' over any player interest in summer window

BRADFORD City have made a name for themselves as being one of the English Football League's real success stories over the past 18 months - both collectively and individually.

Progress brings respect, but also potential interest down the line in some of the chief protagonists in any such story, which is something that chief executive officer Ryan Sparks is conscious of.

On the pitch, the likes of Bobby Pointon, Jenson Metcalfe and Josh Neufville have been busy making a name for themselves - to name but three players.

Given their excellent first seasons at League One level in 2025-26, it is likely that their feats will not have gone unnoticed at clubs higher up the pyramid.

More especially given their ages with their peak years still to come.

At 54, Graham Alexander may seem to be at the older end of the managerial spectrum.

But for his own part, Sparks is also aware that Alexander's achievements in galvanising City since arriving in November 2023 - and succeeding where several others failed before him - could potentially be noted in rival boardrooms, as age is just a number in that regard.

Speculation and interest regarding high-achieving players and managers is something that is never far away from the surface.

While City, in a strong position and a club on the up, are naturally not keen to encourage any such talk in Sparks's view, he remains philosophical about any such situation.

On the prospect of potential interest down the line, he told The Yorkshire Post: "That's something that comes with the territory.

"If there is interest in your players and even your management, then that probably means things are going quite well.

"I don't tend to lose too much sleep over potential approaches for players. It's part of that; it comes with it.

"If we aren't getting interest and people outside our club aren't rating any of our people, then we probably aren't doing too well.

"As it stands today, at the time of writing, I've not got anything on my desk.

"But football changes very quickly, and we try to have a succession plan and have contingencies for all eventualities as best you can."

City return to pre-season in high summer and their first friendly will be against FC United of Manchester at Broadhurst Park on Saturday, July 4.
