The finish line is in sight for League One clubs and it is at this late stage of the season that nerves are at their most frayed.
Rotherham United’s relegation to League Two was confirmed on Tuesday (April 14), when they were put to the sword by Wigan Athletic. Millers chairman Tony Stewart responded to the relegation with a lengthy statement, speaking candidly about the club’s failures.
Port Vale are below Rotherham in the table but are not yet doomed and held Barnsley to a goalless draw on the same night.
Further up the table, Huddersfield Town conceded late on for a second consecutive game as they had to settle for a 1-1 draw with Cardiff City. Bolton Wanderers completed a 5-1 rout of Stevenage and Leyton Orient shared the spoils with Mansfield Town.
24 hours later, AFC Wimbledon were beaten 2-0 by Stockport County and Luton Town were 2-1 victors over Northampton Town.
Bradford City were among the clubs who did not have a midweek fixture but have plenty to fight for across their final four games. Graham Alexander’s men sit fourth in the League One table, seven points clear of seventh-placed Luton Town and 12 points adrift of second-placed Cardiff.
Doncaster Rovers did not have a fixture to fulfil either and sit six points above the drop zone in 15th.
Following the latest League One results, Opta have deployed their supercomputer to predict how the final table will look.
