Hull knocked Lincoln City off top start in League One after the Imps missed two penalties in a 1-0 home defeat to high-flying Doncaster.
The Imps had a three-point cushion heading into Saturday's action, but they were undone by Taylor Richards' 15th-minute strike from outside the box.
Lincoln had chances to secure something from the game, but Jorge Grant and Anthony Scully both failed to convert from 12 yards in the final half hour.
Hull took advantage of Lincoln's loss, beating relegation-threatened Swindon 1-0 after Greg Docherty's early strike.
In League Two, Danny Rowe and Callum Cooke scored for Bradford as they beat Barrow 2-1, with Scott Quigley scoring from the penalty spot for the visitors.
It is a result which puts the Bantams into 17th with just nine points separating them and seventh-placed Newport County.
The victory continues Bradford's fine run under joint-interim managers Conor Sellars and Mark Trueman with the Bantams now unbeaten in eight since the pair took charge last month.
