The 29-year-old central defender has started nine matches this season, but his last appearance was in Stuart McCall's final match as manager.

He has not even made the bench under the interim pair of Mark Trueman and Conor Sellars, who have changed formation from McCall's three at the back to a 4-2-3-1, meaning less need for central defenders.

Namesakes Anthony and Paudie O'Connor have been their preferred pairing and teenager Jorge Sikora has jumped up above Richards-Everton in the pecking order under his former academy coaches.

Richards-Everton played 51 times for the Bantams after joining from Accrington Stanley in 2019, scoring twice, but both sides have agreed to cancel his contract and allow him to move on.

City have signed goalkeeper Will Huffer and loaned Leeds United winger Jordan Stevens this month, but were always clear there were likely to be outgoings too as they look to not only balance the books but stay within this season's new salary-cap regulations.

Dylan Mottley-Henry, who was released when last season was curtailed only to be re-signed for this, is another who might be moved on this month.
