Bradford City transfer latest: Former Doncaster Rovers defender heads back to Scotland after joining Dundee

BRADFORD City defender Joe Wright has completed a permanent move to Scottish Premier League side Dundee.

The switch sees the Yorkshireman return to Scotland after leaving Kilmarnock to join City in the 2025 close season.

He links up with ex-Bantams full-back Brad Halliday at Dens Park.

Wright, 31, made 35 appearances for City last term in all competitions, scoring three goals. He was contracted at Valley Parade until next summer.

Last December, he was among the nominees for the Sky Bet League One Player of the Month award.

But at the start of this season, Wright had found himself down the pecking order and had yet to feature so far in 2026-27, prompting the decision to allow him to move on.

The big defender arrived at City on the back of an excellent 2024-25 campaign with SPL outfit Kilmarnock.

He made 36 appearances in all competitions for Killie, including in Europa League and Champions League qualifiers.

The towering 6ft 4in centre-half was named as the club’s player-of-the-year following an influential season with the Ayrshire outfit.

Wright, who started his career at Huddersfield Town, headed north of the border in 2021 after a five-year association with Doncaster Rovers, where he made almost 100 appearances.

He becomes the latest defensive exit in a summer window which has seen Curtis Tilt, Ciaran Kelly and Neill Byrne also leave Valley Parade, alongside goalkeeper Sam Walker.

Wright’s departure follows on from the club bringing in QPR midfielder Kieran Morgan on a season-long loan – City’s tenth arrival of the summer window.

The Bantams are in action on Tuesday evening at home to Cambridge United.
