Bradford City transfer latest: Former Ipswich Town and Blackpool midfielder becomes fourth summer signing

BRADFORD City have completed the signing of Stockport County midfielder Callum Connolly on an initial two-year deal.

The 28-year-old is City’s fourth summer addition following the captures of ex-Barnsley man Adam Philips, goalkeeper Jon McCracken and striker Jake Beesley.

Everton academy product Connolly, a defensive midfielder who can also slot in at the back, featured 63 times for County during his spell at Edgeley Park and has a wealth of experience in the EFL.

He has tasted international success with England, clinching the Under-20s World Cup in 2017, which featured the likes of Fikayo Tomori, Dominic Solanke and Lewis Cook.

Liverpool-born Connolly’s other former clubs include Ipswich Town, Bolton Wanderers and Blackpool. He recently left Stockport.

Connolly said: “I am delighted to be here.

"As soon as I spoke to the manager, I knew it was the right place for me. It is a massive club with a great fanbase. It was a no-brainer to sign for

"Speaking to a manager who has a clear plan of where he wants the team to be, it gives a player motivation. At 28 years old, I am ready to kick on here.”

City boss Graham Alexander added: "Callum will bring us great versatility and experience of both League One and the Championship.

“He has very good defensive qualities with composure on the ball to progress the play.

"Callum is very competitive with good character, and he will fit right in to what we have created here.”
