Bradford City v Cambridge United: Bantams 'whole package' proving attractive proposition

TOWARDS the end of another strategic, structured and orderly summer transfer window, Bradford City manager Graham Alexander has reason to be relatively content.

Naturally, managers always want a bit more, but the Bantams chief has not much to grumble about.

For most prospective signings, Bradford is not a hard sell, although in comparison to several League One rivals, they will not pay a king's ransom in terms of wages or fees.

These days, players do not come to Bradford City purely because of the big name either. Playing style and other factors come into it, which is a testament to the fine job Graham Alexander and his staff have done.

Speaking ahead of back-to-back home matches, the City chief said: "It has to be the whole package.

"You are going to play in front of full houses every second week potentially, they (fans) are going to demand, but we are always pro-active and try and attack the opposition, home and away.

"Regardless of the level of opponent, we are always going to have self-worth and belief in ourselves. We see attributes and think this is how they (signings) are going to work in our team and paint the picture of football. It’s a group of people who they are going to be working with – staff and players – and this is what we expect.

"There’s loads of things; how much are we going to pay them obviously goes in first and foremost and you can’t ignore that as well.

"That’s not my part but David (Sharpe) and Ryan (Sparks). It’s the full package, really.

"But I think last summer, I talked about the reference point of recruiting players was the 12 months of League Two and certainly the end and (promotion) scenes and being part of that.

"We’ve had another 12 months of not that 'icing on the cake', but we’ve had pretty much a lot of the other stuff. Massive, momentous games, great memories and brilliant victories and tough times where the character of the squad has always been there.

"There’s a lot to be able to recruit a player.

"Because we are not top of the tree for all the other things, we know that.

"Financially, facilities and whatever. We know there’s clubs at this level with more than us.

"But as a full package, I think we can compete. I think you can get constant fulfilment at our place, being a proper footballer."
