Bradford City v Walsall – Consistency of both thought and form vital for Bantams, says Stuart McCall

Stuart McCall has told his Bradford City side they have to follow Saturday’s first away win in just over a year with another good performance against Walsall, rather than get carried away by life in the footballing spotlight.

Last week started with a televised defeat to Harrogate Town at Valley Parade – something else the Bantams had not experienced in League Two since last October – but ended with a 3-1 win at Mansfield Town.

On-field consistency is always hard to achieve in the Football League, where the games come thick and fast, but McCall says it is important his players stay on a level mentally.

“We put in a decent performance on Saturday and we’ve got to go and put in another one against a good side now,” said the Bantams’ manager.

“Just as we weren’t down and out after four games because we’d lost at home, we’re not swinging from the rafters thinking we’re brilliant because we’ve won an away game.”

The Bantams could be boosted by the return of Levi Sutton, Reece Staunton and Paudie O’Connor, who has completed a three-match suspension, but probably not Zeli Ismail and Gareth Evans, still troubled by hamstring injuries.

Last six games: Bradford City WLDWDL; Walsall DWDDDD

Referee: A Haines (Tyne and Wear)

Last time: Bradford City 4 Walsall 0, December 15, 2018, League One.
