Over 1,800 fans saw City turn in a much better performance at Oakwell and while they failed to break their winless streak at the start of the League One campaign, they at least got back on track after a poor showing against Gillingham.

Steven Davies spurned City’s best chance in the second half, although the visitors rode their luck at the death when Marc Roberts injury-time header struck the post.

Parkinson, who made six changes, said: ‘It was a lot better from us. We were disappointed on Tuesday, but we responded in excellent fashion.

“We were disciplined and committed without the ball.’

‘That is how we have got to play to get results. We have got a lot of new players and players who came in late who are getting up to speed.

“But that’s the best we have played over ninety minutes this season.’

Offering his take, Lee Johnson, who handed a debut to loan signing Kadeem Harris from the bench in the second half, said: “I knew before the game it would be really tough with two contrasting styles.

“I thought it was quite a good game and advert really. Probably not quite as many shots on targets as we’d like. But I think everyone appreciated it was a tough game all around for both teams.

“I thought there were lots of positives. The way we moved the ball at times demoralised them with our passing. We didn’t quite have enough on the end of it, if I am honest.

“I come out it a bit upset because we wanted to win. But generally knowing it was a decent point.”
