Breaking team news for FA Cup weekend

IT is one of the most anticipated weekends of the football season as our teams do battle in the FA Cup third round.

Pick of the ties is at Old Trafford on Sunday when Leeds will look to relive their glory days with a trip to Premier League champions Manchester United.

Elsewhere, non-league York City will travel to top flight Stoke City looking to cause what would be one of the biggest upsets of the round.

FA Cup Third Round

Brentford v Doncaster Rovers

Team news: Striker Paul Heffernan is back in the Doncaster squad after returning from a one month loan stay at Oldham Athletic.

Captain Brian Stock will play after recovering from an ankle injury and Sean McDaid is also back in contention after a lengthy absence due to knee trouble.

Adam Lockwood (foot), Martin Woods (groin), and Steve Brooker (ankle) are again ruled out while James Coppinger and James Hayter are doubtful.

Doncaster manager Sean O'Driscoll said: "You've got to view this game as an opportunity to get one of the big boys."

Huddersfield Town v WBA

Team news: Michael Collins has recovered from a knock on his hip and should be available to face Championship side West Bromwich Albion.

It means Lee Clark has 22 senior players to choose from following the return to the Galpham of Simon Eastwood after a loan spell with Bradford City.

Manchester United v Leeds United

Team news: Leigh Bromby misses the trip to Old Trafford through suspension after being booked for a fifth time this season during last Monday's win at Stockport County.

Shane Higgs and Ben Parker also missing, though Simon Grayson has had good news with the latter after the left back returned to training over the festive season.

Max Gradel is unavailable due to parent club Leicester City not wanting the winger to be Cup-tied.

Sheffield Wednesday v Crystal Palace

Team news: Striker Leon Clarke is set to return to the Owls side as a replacement for Luke Varney whose loan deal from Derby County has expired.

Midfielder Tom Soares has been granted permission to play after extending his loan from Stoke City.

Defender Richard Hinds is ruled out by a heel problem and winger Michael Gray is doubtful with a virus. Tommy Miller remains absent with a hamstring injury.

Owls caretaker manager Sean McAuley said: "Players make football matches, not managers, and our players will have a tough test."

Sheffield United v QPR

Team news: Defender Marcel Seip is set to make his debut for the Blades after arriving on loan from Plymouth Argyle until the end of the season.

Seip could replace Matthew Kilgallon who is on the brink of a move away from Bramall Lane.

Scottish international defender Gary Naysmith is also a contender to start after recovering from a knee operation at the end of last season.

Blades manager Kevin Blackwell said: "Anything that brings in extra revenue needs to be grasped with both hands."

Wigan Athletic v Hull City

Team news: Phil Brown is expected to make wholesale changes as attention turns away from the Premier League.

Among those expected to feature are Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink and Kevin Kilbane, while also pushing for a starting place are Peter Halmosi, Steven Mouyokolo and Kamel Ghilas.

Paul McShane is, however, unlikely to be risked with a hamstring strain so will join Jimmy Bullard (knee) and Ian Ashbee (knee) on the sidelines.

Stoke City v York City

Team news: Martin Foyle has the luxury of an almost fully-fit squad to choose from with only Alan O'Hare definitely ruled out with an ankle injury.

However, fellow defender Djoumin Sangare is also likely to miss out as he continues his rehabilitation from an abductor strain.

Scunthorpe United v Barnsley

Team news: Barnsley manager Mark Robins is faced with a selection dilemma after the return to the club of defenders Carl Dickinson and Ryan Shotton on loan from Stoke City.

The pair were unavailable for Monday's victory over Middlesbrough and both Stephen Foster and Rob Kozluk seized opportunities to get back in the side.

Robins has a full strength squad at his disposal and said: "The FA Cup is a special competition.

"I was lucky enough to win it as a player and we want a run in it again this season."

League Two

Bradford City v Cheltenham Town.

Team news: With Simon Eastwood having returned to parent club Huddersfield Town, City will turn to Joe McLaughlin for the visit of Cheltenham despite the former Harrogate Town goalkeeper having started just once before.

Matt Clarke is forced to sit out the game due to his red card against Shrewsbury Town last Monday.

Rochdale v Rotherham United.

Team news: The Millers will be without defender Nick Fenton who is two games into a four game ban.

Midfielder Jason Taylor, who is currently on loan to Rochdale from the Millers, is not allowed to play.

Veteran wingers Paul Warne and Andy Liddell remain sidelined.

Manager Ronnie Moore said: "We're 14 points behind them but we've played three games fewer and there are three up for grabs here."
