Defeat leaves Rovers eight points adrift of safety with five games remaining.
Boss Darren Ferguson said: “It was a frustrating day.
“It was a game that summed up our season really. We weren’t good enough in the final third, which sums up our season.
“We had 20 corners, and 25 crosses and we didn’t score. And that’s why we are where we are. We’re just not scoring enough goals.

“We did a lot of things well but you can’t have that many corners and crosses and force so few saves from the goalkeeper.
“We’ve got to keep persevering, though. “What I do see as a manager is that they’re having a go, they’re trying, they’re showing the right commitment, there’s no question about that. They’re not chucking it.
“I’m not seeing a team that’s not trying their hardest to get out of the situation. We’ve got to keep going until someone tells us its mathematically impossible.”
