Charlton Athletic 1 Bradford City 1: Dieng's header ensures Bantams lengthen their unbeaten run

BRADFORD CITY came from behind to secure a point at Charlton Athletic last night.

Timothee Dieng’s goal late in the first half extended the promotion-chasing visitors’ unbeaten run to six games.

The Bantams opened brightly, twice going close through Romain Vincelot and Tony McMahon, the Addicks responding with Tony Watt’s well-hit strike blocked by Rory McArdle.

Former Huddersfield man Lee Novak was looking a threat for the hosts and provided a smart cross for Adam Chicksen, whose header was off target.

Back came the Bantams and Nat Knight-Percival headed narrowly over, and at the other end Novak fizzed in a shot that only just went wide.

The deadlock was broken by Charlton in the 35th minute, Jorge Teixeira slamming a shot high into the roof of the net from a knock-down by Novak.

The Bantams soon levelled, Mark Marshall’s shot being only parried by goalkeeper Declan Rudd into the path of Dieng, who headed into the gaping goal.

The visitors began the second period with something of a spring in their step and Marshall only missed the target by inches.

There was a close call at the other end, though, when Watt side-footed wide from six yards.

Patrick Bauer also went close with a firm header that drifted narrowly wide.

With six minutes left, the Addicks almost nicked victory when Johnnie Jackson’s free-kick clipped the top of the crossbar.
