Chesterfield v Harrogate Town: Ache has gone but more needed, says Simon Weaver

Simon Weaver says Harrogate Town's first League Two win since September has lifted the "bad ache" his club were feeling.

Until last week’s 2-1 win over Cambridge United, the Sulphurites had gone 20 league games without a victory, dropping to the bottom of the Football League.

Even those points have not changed that, so they need to add more as soon as possible – hopefully on Saturday at Chesterfield.

"It certainly felt like the mood has lifted again over the last few days because of that win," said manager Weaver. "We needed it.

"We'd been performing well in recent weeks but that pain inside is still there. it's like a bad ache, you need to get rid of it.

"The gloom lifted around the stadium. As soon as we scored the first goal the lads were on the right track. I felt we played front-foot football.

"We can talk about good performances but we know the reality is we don't just need good performances, you need to win.

"We need to continue in the same vein of performance in order to create that intensity and to get the outcomes we want.

"Sunday was great. In the early part of the week you bask in that. We have to reproduce that level of performance to give us a chance."

It will not be easy with the Spireites a point outside the play-off places but Cambridge were higher still and in better form.

"They've got a good calibre of player comfortable with the ball on the deck," said Weaver. "If you allow them to flow they'll get into our final third. We've got to make sure we have people in the right spots intense for the whole game.

"They can hurt the opposition if you're not intense enough, if you don't have enough bite in the middle third."
