Crewe Alexandra v York City: Minstermen able to take time with injuries

York City have Jack Hunt and Dipo Akinyemi back in training but after a positive start to the season, manager Scott Lindsey appears reluctant to risk them at Crewe Alexandra on Saturday.

The Minstermen narrowly lost their first game back in League Two at Cheltenham Town on Tuesday, but it has been a very positive start since the acrimonious League Cup preliminary round defeat to Crawley Town.

It means Lindsey can take his time with injured players.

“Dipo Akinyemi trained on Thursday,” said Lindsey. “He looked really good but he probably needs to do a full week before we consider (him for selection).

“Jack Hunt trained fully too, but again we probably have to be mindful he’s not done loads."

Last season's top-scorer Josh Stones is yet to play since, but goals in loanee Jovan Malcolm’s first two games have reduced the urgency for Akinyemi, who felt an injury against Bristol Rovers.

Meanwhile, summer signing Frankie Maguire's debut has been delayed by plantar fasciitis.

“Frankie has got a real sore plantar fasciitis in the bottom of his foot," he said. “There have been times where he has come out onto the grass and has had a bit of a setback.

“We’re monitoring him day-by-day and week-by-week but we’re hopeful of getting him back soon.”

Stones' return is planned for early October, Zak Johnson later this month.

Lindsey added: “Everyone is fine and ready to go again.

“If we freshen it up, it would only be one position or two. Is there a need from a physical standpoint? Probably, but from a tactical point, probably not.”
