Curtis Davies: Wembley means nothing if Hull City are defeated

WEMBLEY has brought the best and worst footballing occasions of my life.

To go 2-0 up in an FA Cup final at Wembley and to score one of those goals is amazing. It is the stuff you dream of as a kid. But I also experienced the losing feeling that day in the FA Cup final and I don’t want to feel that pain again.

This is the biggest game you can have in English football. You work hard for 46 games in a season and try so hard to get promotion. And it all comes down to these 90 minutes.

It is our second and last chance to make this season a success after not quite being good enough for automatic promotion. After finishing fourth, we had three games to get in the Premier League and now it is just one.

The first time is the best time to go up after being relegated from the Premier League. Especially as we know that some big teams are coming down with huge resources.

Sheffield Wednesday are a very good team. The first time we played each other at Hillsborough, they were very good in the first half. They peppered us a bit, but in the second half we had the better of it. It was a 50-50 game and the 1-1 draw a fair result. The second game at the KC, 0-0 in February, was a bore draw.

At Wembley, it is going to be another evenly matched game and we need to be ready for them. Wednesday have pace in attack and on the break.

They were similar to us in the semi-finals, in that they built a good first leg lead but then struggled a bit before getting through. I watched their second leg and Brighton could have been two up early. But Wednesday showed character.

The difference was that they were delighted to get through. Their celebrations showed how big it was for them. We were a bit more low key. Wembley is not the goal, promotion is the goal and, hopefully, if we go up we can celebrate like crazy.
