Darren Moore says upping the tempo was behind Doncaster Rovers' brilliant comeback against Blackpool

Darren Moore praised the spirit and desire of his Doncaster Rovers side, even if he was frustrated it took 45 minutes to come to the fore.

Rovers were 2-0 down halfway through their game against a Blackpool team who had won their last five matches, but came back to win 3-2.

Moore introduced Taylor Richards at the interval for James Coppinger, but it was the tempo of the whole team which changed.

“Taylor came in and did really well but the big thing was more urgency in the game,” said the manager.

“There was no urgency and tempo and with that you're not going to move the opposition's shape.

“We saw more of a reaction in the second half.

“It was much more like us in the second 45 minutes. We showed what the team was about and they (Blackpool) struggled to recover. The desire to get the win at 2-2, I could hear it on the pitch.

“When it goes to 2-2 and then we had 15 minutes like that in the ascendancy but credit to the boys in terms of keeping to their shape, I thought it was more in behind them second half.”

It was the sixth time in the last nine matches Rovers had allowed the opposition to score first – this time through a penalty from Doncaster-born Jerry Yates.

“Why it happens like that, I don't know,” said Moore. “Is it because we're a young group?

“There's not a focal point where you can say why. You're better off going in front but the character, the desire, the togetherness, the resilience, the ability to stand up and be counted, all those were in abundance.

“We got three points but I'm sitting here with two points we gave away.

“Over the course of 180 minutes (in Saturday's 1-1 draw against Sunderland and against Blackpool) we've had to claw back three goals. The character and desire is a great tool to have.

“In this game you're not always going to win pretty, playing the perfect style. This season the team's shown different ways to win the game and I have to be delighted.

“they'll take a lot of spirit and confidence from that.

“We came against a real in-form team. I have to be pleased because we've beaten a really good team.

“The team showed a lot of spirit, another way to win a game and these are certainly some facets that last season we've built on. It's a great skillset to have.”

Moore revealed he will set to work on Wednesday morning trying to secure a second seven-day emergency loan for Queens Park Rangers goalkeeper Joe Lumley.
