'I’ll be totally honest' - Davis Keillor-Dunn makes admission over move from Barnsley FC to Wrexham

Davis Keillor-Dunn has admitted to feeling he had to leave Barnsley for Wrexham - but insisted he ended his stay with the Reds harmoniously.

The 28-year-old arrived at Oakwell in the dying embers of the summer 2024 transfer window, joining from Mansfield Town.

He quickly became a talismanic figure for the Reds, fuelling talk of interest from the second tier of English football.

Wrexham pushed a deal over the line on deadline day, re-signing the frontman having had his services for a brief spell in 2020.

Davis Keillor-Dunn on Wrexham move

Speaking to ex-Wrexham stars Ben Tozer and Ben Foster on That Wrexham Podcast, Keillor-Dunn said: “I’ll be totally honest, there has always been a little bit of interest [from Wrexham].

“I’ve always heard of it, each window that’s passed. I’ve always thought ‘come on, let’s get it done this one’. This January window was probably the one I was thinking ‘right, this is really close’.

“I was getting to an age where I was thinking ‘I’ve got to go now, I’ve literally got to’. For a week, two weeks, there were loads of conversations. I was getting stuff back from my agent and I was like ‘look, if there’s one club you want to be at at the minute, it’s here, isn’t it?’. We were pushing and it got done.”

Harmonious Barnsley exit

While the move was one Keillor-Dunn was clearly keen on making, he has insisted his time at Oakwell “ended brilliantly”.

He notched a brace against Stevenage in his final game for the club, meaning his final tally came to 35 goals in 78 appearances.

The marksman said: “It all ended brilliantly at my previous club Barnsley. It really did. Saturday, I obviously scored two, the club won, three points, and I think a lot of the fans were really happy to see me move on and get my opportunity in the Championship. It was really good.”
