Depleted Giants earn Anderson praise after win

Huddersfield coach Paul Anderson hailed his side’s battling qualities after the Giants dug in to earn this win at London.

The visitors lost both full-back Jake Connor and winger Jermaine McGillvary to injury in a bruising first half, which saw Huddersfield trailing 16-10.

But the Giants responded in style after the break, running in 20 unanswered points en route to a fourth successive Super League win.

Anderson said: “If you look at the adversity we had to go through I’m pretty pleased.

“We had players out of position and others playing longer than they normally would. I really take my hat off to the boys.

“We had to reset, calm down and make some changes at half-time and I cannot fault the effort.

London really provided us with a challenge, and to keep them scoreless in the second half was a great effort.”

The Giants were the fastest out of the blocks, Shaun Lunt giving them an early lead.

Atelea Vea responded for the hosts, only for Ukuma Ta’ai to add a second Huddersfield score.

London enjoyed a purple patch before the break, with both Alex Foster and Denny Solomona crossing for tries, Josh Drinkwater also booting a penalty. But the visitors upped their game as the rain lashed down after the break, with Anthony Mullally, Ta’ai and Leroy Cudjoe grabbing tries, Danny Brough kicking eight further points.

The reverse, the Broncos’ twelfth on the bounce, ruined coach Joe Grima’s debut match in charge of the London club, having stepped into the position
after Tony Rea’s departure earlier in the week.

Grima said: “I think we earned a little bit more respect, but respect does not earn you two points. The players are in the dressing room disappointed to have lost the game.”
