Rovers, who show two changes from their Blackpool horror-show, went close as James Coppinger fluffed a good chance at the back post.

The visitors took a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute after Ross Etheridge, filling in for Marko Marosi in goal, spilled a cross to Matt Bloomfield who knocked in from what was practically a sedentary position in the box.

Rovers were level on the half-hour though as John Marquis converted Coppinger’s low cross across goal.

Darren Ferguson’s side surged in front when Marquis broke down the middle, dummied two defenders and the ‘keeper before slotting in.

The hosts nearly doubled their advantage in the last minute of the first half when Cedric Evina’s deflected cross was turned over the crossbar.
