Doncaster Rovers 'set' to sign Sheffield Wednesday and Huddersfield Town-linked Tommi O'Reilly from Aston Villa
Doncaster Rovers have been tipped to win the race for an attacking midfielder’s signature
Doncaster Rovers are reportedly set to sign in-demand playmaker Tommi O’Reilly on loan from Aston Villa.
The 22-year-old has been a coveted figure this summer having enjoyed a stellar 2025/26 season on loan at Crewe Alexandra.
His exploits in the fourth tier have fuelled talk of interest from the likes of League One outfits Sheffield Wednesday, Huddersfield Town and Notts County.
Wednesday, for a brief period earlier in the summer, appeared to be in pole position to land the fleet-footed creator. However, a move did not materialise and he now looks set to move elsewhere in South Yorkshire.

Doncaster Rovers ‘set’ to land Aston Villa playmaker on loan
According to Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke, Doncaster are set to clinch the signing of O’Reilly on a season-long loan deal.
Posting on X, he said: “Doncaster Rovers are set to sign Aston Villa starlet Tommi O’Reilly on a season-long loan. A plethora of clubs have been interested in the midfielder.”
If O’Reilly does seal a loan switch to the Club Doncaster Sports Village, it will be the fifth temporary move of his career. Prior to his spell at Crewe, he had been sent to Real Unión, Shrewsbury Town and Milton Keynes Dons.
He has made just one senior appearance for Villa, in a Conference League draw with Zrinjski Mostar in December 2023.

Tommi O’Reilly’s Crewe Alexandra spell
The attacking midfielder was among Crewe’s standout figures last term, registering seven goals and 14 assists across 50 appearances in all competitions.
In April, Crewe boss Lee Bell conceded there was “not a chance” O’Reilly or fellow loanee Emre Tezgel would be returning to the Railwaymen.
He told BBC Radio Stoke: “If one of them could come back to this club, I'd snap your hand off, but there's not a chance.
“I'd be very surprised to see them playing in League Two ever again - not until they get about 35 and they're winding down. No, we definitely won't be able to get them. I'll try, but there's no chance.”
It now appears O’Reilly will get the chance to impress in League One with Doncaster, who are still looking for their first win of the third-tier campaign.
