The situation is a role reversal for Doncaster Rovers manager Darren Moore, without the services of James Coppinger – who turned 40 on Monday – Tyreece John-Jules, Joe Wright and Reece James tonight.

Moore’s side started off life without talismanic captain Ben Whiteman in a winning vein in Saturday’s 2-1 win at Swindon, their eighth victory in their last 10 outings in all competitions.

But with Moore unlikely to be the recipient of any key funds to replenish his squad after the big-money sale of Whiteman to Preston, maintaining the club’s outstanding league position will represent a Herculean challenge.

A phlegmatic Moore said: “We are making do with what we have got and just working as best as we can in the situation that we are presented with in terms of the games and the bodies that are available in terms of going on from there.

“We will have to put it all together as a group and just move on.”
