Blackpool 0 Doncaster Rovers 2: Ferguson delighted as Rovers continue run

Rovers outplayed their hosts during the first half and, though Ferguson admitted they were sloppy at times after the break, they proved solid at the back to register a third consecutive clean sheet in all competitions.

Andy Williams grabbed his fourth goal in three games with a stunning curled finish after five minutes with Aaron Taylor-Sinclair stabbing the ball home before the break.

Williams took possession on the right corner of the box, cut back onto his left foot and curled a fantastic effort in at the far post.

“It was a great finish but the players are always encouraged to shoot, said Ferguson, whose side are now up to 16th. “We played some really good stuff and our system proved hard for them. I am delighted for the players, who deserve a lot of credit and are getting the rewards for the work they put in on the training pitch.”

After Williams made it 1-0, Blackpool’s Mark Cullen flicked a header just wide before Rovers made their dominance count in the 40th minute.

Andy Butler flicked on a corner from the right and Taylor-Sinclair stabbed home in a scramble.

The hosts had greater possession after the interval without testing Thorsten Stuckmann.

Craig Alcock, signed on loan from Sheffield United in midweek, was handed his Rovers debut off the bench.
