Decision expected over Flynn’s future

LEAGUE ONE: Doncaster Rovers are set to make an announcement over the future of Brian Flynn today, with speculation mounting that he may not be offered the long-term managerial post.

Rovers owners met on Tuesday to discuss a range of issues following the club’s dramatic promotion to the Championship after winning League One in last-gasp fashion at Brentford last weekend, with Flynn’s future top of the agenda.

The 57-year-old Welshman took over on a caretaker basis at the beginning of January following Dean Saunders’ departure to Wolves and was later handed a deal until the end of the season.

That contract ended on Sunday, with Rovers then handing Flynn a two-week deal to provide the board time to take stock of the situation before deciding on the way ahead.

A club statement this week said: “The hard work starts now as planning for the new season begins behind the scenes as the dust settles on the celebrations.

“As the club are now at an important stage in planning for the new challenges ahead, the owners discussed the manager and players for the new season.

“These discussions are still on going as the owners work hard to give the club the best chance to compete in the Championship. The club hope to clarify the position on Friday.”
