Doncaster Rovers’ Darren Moore delighted to get second chance with Celtic teenager

FOLLOWING on from the addition of three ‘marquee’ signings last week, the arrival of Scott Robertson flew under the radar somewhat at Doncaster Rovers.

For manager Darren Moore, the capture of the Celtic teenager, who spent the first half of the campaign on loan at Rovers’ League One rivals Gillingham, it was every bit as significant.

On the midfielder, who was an unused substitute in last Saturday’s victory at Lincoln City, Moore said: “We are really pleased to have Scott on board. We tried to get him at the start of the season and just missed out.

“To get another ‘bite’ at him now means we are delighted to have him on board.

“He is a nice footballer and moves well with the ball and has terrific technique and wonderful ability and sees it and understands it.

“He is a young, energetic footballer who wants that opportunity to play games.

“He is at a football club where he will get those games and he is one of those who we are integrating into the squad and we are getting him used to the ideas we do here. Hopefully, it will not be too long before the Rovers fans get a glimpse of him and see why we have brought him to the club.”

Meanwhile, Moore says he will resist the temptation to rush back Josh Sims early following a hamstring injury.

The Southampton winger – hugely influential in his first loan spell at Rovers in the opening half of the season – is now back in training, having recently joined for a second temporary spell.

Rovers fans have also yet to get their first glimpse of another January arrival in John Bostock, but Moore has sent out a positive message regarding his fitness.

The Rovers chief said: “He is really close now. Every day that passes by now for John is a step to being closer and in and around our first team and match-day squad and getting in.”
