Doncaster Rovers: Dickov hopeful over Coppinger’s ankle injury

PAUL DICKOV says that James Coppinger will visit an ankle specialist tonight, with the Doncaster Rovers boss hopeful that the prognosis will be a good one - and is not ruling him out of even featuring against Walsall this weekend.

Coppinger had a scan after picking up the injury in Saturday’s derby at Chesterfield, which showed some ligament damage, but Dickov believes his symptoms are not too bad.

He said: “Copps’ symptoms are a lot better than the scan showed.

“He is going to see an ankle specialist tonight and if that goes hand in hand, then we are hopeful he will be available for the weekend.

“If not, we will go with what we have got.”

Dickov confirmed that Rovers are awaiting one piece of paperwork to be processed from the Greek Federation regarding clearing Abdul Razak before he can start his competitive career at the club.

Red tape has so far prevented the former Manchester City player making his debut for Rovers, much to the player and club’s frustration.

Dickov said: “As far as I know, the latest is that the FA have contacted Fifa to try and get in touch with the authorities at the Greek Federation.

“We are still hoping of getting something through for Saturday.

“It is frustrating for the player as he’s in training, getting himself fit and looking good and desperate to play.

“It is also frustrating for us as we have signed him to come and play football.”
