Doncaster Rovers’ Madger Gomes wins EFL award

DONCASTER ROVERS midfielder Madger Gomes is celebrating after being named as the EFL League One player of the month for September.

The Spaniard, 23, was rewarded for an outstanding month which saw him net in all three league matches and produce some eye-catching contributions for Rovers.

He beat off competition from Hull City’s Goerge Honeyman, AFC Wimbledon forward Joe Pigott and Lincoln keeper Alex Palmer.

Despite his side’s 100 per cent start to the league season, Hull chief Grant McCann missed out on the League One manager’s gong, with the award going to Ipswich Town manager Paul Lambert.

Doncaster boss Darren Moore was among the other nominees.

Harrogate Town duo Simon Weaver and striker Aaron Martin missed out on the League Two accolades for the manager and player of the month for September after being nominated.
