Flynn given Doncaster Rovers job

Brian Flynn has been named as Doncaster Rovers manager until the end of the season.

The 57-year-old took caretaker charge last week and steered Rovers to a 2-1 win at Stevenage, which helped them stretch their advantage over the play-off places in League One to six points.

Flynn was initially brought in by Dean Saunders as his advance scout last August, and stepped up last week when Saunders left to take the Wolves post.

Flynn is a former Wales Under-21s manager and was previously in charge of Wrexham.

Rovers have been inundated with offers to succeed Saunders but with the team doing so well, chairman John Ryan has opted to cause as little disruption as possible.

Ryan said: “We are pleased to announce that Brian and Rob have taken up our offer to manage the team and are now fully focussed on the game against Leyton Orient.

“Brian has a great history at the club and is being assisted by our current captain Rob Jones, who has earned the respect of his teammates and fans this season through his commanding leadership.

“We had an overwhelming number of applications for the position, including former International and Premiership managers, however after a detailed process we felt that our initial choice, Brian was the best person to put in charge and would allow a seamless transition.”
