Weather scuppers Blades, Doncaster matches

YORKSHIRE’S League One promotion pushers Sheffield United and Doncaster Rovers have both been thwarted by the weather this evening.

Leaders Doncaster were scheduled to welcome 16th-placed Carlisle United but the game was called off following a morning pitch inspection at the Keepmoat Stadium due to a frozen pitch.

The Blades - who currently sit second - were due to travel to 14th-placed Crewe Alexandra tonight but that fixture also failed a midday pitch inspection due to frozen conditions.

The Blades will return to action on Saturday at 15th-placed Stevenage with Rovers due to entertain second-bottom Portsmouth.

The Blades will be booted out of the automatic promotion places should third-placed Swindon Town win at Brentford this evening but Danny Wilson’s side would have a game in hand and be only one point behind.
