Wigan Athletic v Doncaster Rovers - We can get even better, insists Darren Moore

AS statements go, Doncaster Rovers’ last two results have been seriously impressive.

A combined total of seven goals have been plundered in handsome victories over Bristol Rovers and Charlton, with Doncaster receiving plenty of metaphorical backslaps from supporters – remotely, of course – along the way.

Manager Darren Moore is not one for shouting things from the rooftops, but one thing that he is adamant about is that his side has only just begun its journey in 2020-21 – with an exciting group of largely young players eager to learn and grow having plenty of improvement within them.

Moore said: “As good and positive as the result was (4-1 v Bristol Rovers last week), as a manager, I see the capabilities, where this squad is at and where I want it to be and we will continue to work.

“There are still areas where I want to be better at and need us to. We can be better with the ball and work off the ball.

“I don’t feel we are anywhere near as good as we have been. There is more to come from us over a sustained period of time.”

Rovers today face a Wigan side who are gradually showing signs of finding their feet following a period of upheaval on and off the pitch.

It is a line-up which has been decimated in terms of personnel from the end of last season, but some quality still remains, according to Moore.

On Wigan, who claimed their morale-boosting first victory of the season at Portsmouth last weekend, Moore added: “They are a good, talented team with some wonderful players still there.

“As a team, we know we have to put in another improved performance and it will demand (new) levels from the players and they have to keep moving forward to gain the three points.”
