The Gills had started the day in third place, but made the most of both Burton and Walsall dropping points, as the Saddlers also conceded a stoppage-time goal in their 1-1 draw at home to Blackpool.

“It’s nowhere near good enough,” Ferguson said.

“I’m being brutally honest as I always am and it was nowhere near good enough.

“We weren’t good enough on the ball, it was simple as that.

“It’s frustrating but it was annoying as well that our standards have slipped, particularly on the ball because we’re normally very good.
