Former Barnsley and Huddersfield Town defender becomes free agent as Stoke City exit confirmed

Stoke City have confirmed former Barnsley and Huddersfield Town defender Tom Edwards will be leaving the club this summer.

The 25-year-old is a product of the Potters academy and has 51 appearances for the club on his CV. However, he has never managed to stay in the Stoke side for long and has been loaned out on five separate occasions.

His last two loan spells were in Yorkshire, with Barnsley and Huddersfield respectively. He made 15 appearances in a Barnsley shirt in the 2022/23 campaign before his season was curtailed by injury.

Edwards then linked up with Huddersfield for the 2023/24 campaign, but struggled for form over the course of his 13 outings. His loan spell ended with relegation, as Huddersfield fell out of the Championship.

The former England under-20 international had previously had a temporary stint at Fleetwood Town, as well as two in the United States with New York Red Bulls.

He is not the only member of the Stoke squad to have not been offered fresh terms and he will depart alongside the likes of D’Margio Wright-Philips and Tom Sparrow.
