Former Manchester City, Rangers and Reading winger who had Rotherham United spell becomes free agent at 27
Former Rotherham United and Manchester City winger Brandon Barker has been released by Morecambe.
The wideman was tipped for stardom as he climbed the Manchester City youth ranks and won caps for England at youth level. However, he managed just one appearance at senior level for his boyhood club.
While cutting his teeth, he had a brief loan spell at Rotherham, scoring once in four outings for the Millers. He left Manchester City permanently in 2019 and spells with Rangers, Reading and Omonia followed.

Barker was recruited by League Two outfit Morecambe in January, landing a short-term deal at the Mazuma Mobile Stadium. Following the conclusion of the 2023/24 campaign, Morecambe have confirmed Barker is being allowed to seek pastures new.
He has been released alongside a host of other senior players, including former Bradford City and Doncaster Rovers forward Jordy Hiwula.
Adam Smith, Jacob Bedeau, Chris Stokes, Max Melbourne, Oscar Threlkeld, Jacob Davenport, Yann Songo’o, Jake Taylor, Cammy Smith and Jordan Slew have also not been offered contracts.
In a statement, Morecambe said: “We’d like to place on record our thanks to all our outgoing players for their efforts while at the club and wish them all the very best in their future endeavours.”
