The 22-year-old former Brentford player sustained the injury in a friendly with Grimsby on Friday. It follows last week’s news that Allan McGregor and Alex Bruce will miss the beginning of the campaign with problems.

“First and foremost, it’s desperately disappointing news for Moses,” said Tigers boss Steve Bruce. “He was exceptional for us last season as we won promotion back to the Premier League and we expect him to be a top player for many years to come.”

Odubajo was instrumental in the Tigers’ promotion back to the top flight via the play-offs, playing 53 times for the club in his first season since moving from the Bees last summer.

Although he is set for an extended spell on the sidelines, both the player and his manager adopted a positive outlook on the news that he avoided damaging other ligaments, which could have kept him out even longer.

Writing on Twitter, the defender said: “Thanks again for the support people I’m very lucky, to not have damaged more ligaments.”

Bruce is pleased that the injury the full-back has suffered is not as bad as the knee issue that kept team-mate Robert Snodgrass out for over a year.

“I know how much he was looking forward to testing himself in the top flight of English football and to now have to sit out the first half of the season is a big blow – both for him and for the club,” Bruce added.

“At least the injury is not at the same level as the one suffered by Robert Snodgrass and, as a result, we will look forward to seeing Moses return to training in the new year.”

Sheffield Wednesday have completed the signing of former Norwich goalkeeper Jake Kean. The 25-year-old had his contract at Carrow Road terminated by mutual consent.

Kean replaces Lewis Price, who joined Rotherham United last week, and will provide cover and competition for Keiren Westwood, Joe Wildsmith and Cameron Dawson.

“It’s up to me to come here and have a go and try and get that No 1 shirt,” said Kean. “But it’s Keiren’s at the minute and if I can provide more competition for him and make him play better then great.”
