SCOTT GARNER proved to be the hero for FC Halifax Town when his extra-time header earned the Yorkshire club a return to the National League with a 2-1 win over Chorley.

Garner’s header in the 100th minute settled the issue in front of a bumper crowd of 7,920 as the Shaymen returned to the fifth tier at the first time of asking.

Town took the lead on 48 minutes, courtesy of Kevin Roberts’ effort, but a superb free-kick from Adam Blakeman restored parity on the hour mark.
