Bradford City will respond to their chastening 3-1 defeat at Burton by looking to sign a new central midfielder this week. Lee Evans is set to make his return when the Bantams visit Peterborough, but Phil Parkinson is convinced that they need another player in the middle of the park to provide more leadership.

Parkinson said: “We’ve got Evo back next week which will be a bonus for us. But looking at that central midfield, we’re striving to find the best two in there.

“We’ve played Evo and Knotty (Billy Knott) at home and looked great, we had a good run with Evo and Lidds (Gary Liddle) away.

“But we need to get back to finding a partnership in the middle of the pitch.

“We’ve been looking at people but it’s getting in players who are good enough to come straight in and stake a claim.

“Had we won on Saturday, with Evans coming back we’d have had time to reassess. But we do need another player to add to the squad.”

Manchester United are chasing the signature of Chelsea prospect Domingos Quina, according to the Daily Mirror. The 16-year-old was identified as a player of some talent at the St George’s Park Tournament run by the FA in the summer.

Everton might be tempted into making a move for Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny in the summer, according to the Daily Star. Szczesny is currently on a season-long loan at Roma, but he is not likely to make a permanent switch to Serie A.
