Grant McCann left to rue one moment as Doncaster Rovers switch off at Bradford City

Grant McCann was pleased with the fight his Doncaster Rovers side showed at Bradford City, but left to rue them switching off in a decisive moment.

Tyreik Wright punished it with a brilliant volley from Josh Neufville's cross, but from a Rovers' perspective, the only goal of the game was a disappointing one.

"I reckon if Neufville puts that ball in 12 times, 10 he'd have put it over the crossbar," said McCann. "That's not to disparage the finish, it's an unbelievable finish.

"That moment obviously just caused us to come away empty-handed.

"It was going to take somebody to switch it off, and we switched off in two moments.

"That's what it was going to take. That's frustrating me, really. But I was pleased with the endeavour of the boys to fight again.

"We made it a bit like the type of game Bradford want to play. But I thought on a whole the boys have worked really hard and probably deserve at least a point."

But he was pleased with the overall performance.

"I thought it was a close game," he said. "We had two really good chances in the first half. We had maybe three chances.

"Harry Clifton's one, Billy Sharp's off the line. Haks (Adelakun's header onto the crossbar) – another day we score.

"I think we had the better chances in the first half. They had a couple of half-chances from a corner that Zander (Clark) saved, hit the post, came back and hit the post.

"But I felt we defended everything they threw at us again.

"We knew they're first in the league for long balls so we knew we had to come here and defend and we did.

"But the one moment that we don't stop a cross (from Neufville) or do a bit more to try and stop that cross, and the one moment we don't see the opposite wing-back (Wright), we've conceded.

"I'd have been disappointed talking to you about a draw, I'm even more disappointed talking about a defeat but probably in the midst of it all, I'm going to watch it back and a draw might have been a fair result but ultimately at this level you need to stay switched on for 90, 95 minutes."

There was one moment of controversy which exasperated McCann when Kayden Jackson's first-half goal for Bradford was disallowed, but only after an intervention from the fourth official.

"It seemed from where we were it was a pretty clear handball but for one reason or another, it takes so long for a goal to eventually be rightfully disallowed," he said.

"If there's a handball leading into a goal, then it gets ruled out.

"What amazes me, and probably why everyone in here was so frustrated, is we've got the linesmen 12 yards away and a referee four or five yards away and they can't see it.

"He's the one who sees it, like everybody else in the place can see it.

"That's where you get frustrated as a manager. That's where you end up getting yourself in trouble."
