Grayson finally pins down Danns

The Liverpudlian had only just returned to Leicester after a short loan spell at Bristol City, but with the player’s options at the King Power Stadium limited, manager Nigel Pearson has elected to let him leave the club again.

Robins chief Derek McInnes was keen to keep Danns, 30, at Ashton Gate following his successful loan spell, but the lure of a return north closer to his family home tipped the scales in Town’s favour.

Grayson has admired former Crystal Palace player Danns since his days at Blackpool, with the Town boss also trying to sign him during his time with Leeds United.

Danns – contracted to Leicester until the summer of 2014 – links up with Foxes team-mate Jermaine Beckford, currently on loan at Town, and former Palace colleagues Sean Scannell, Alan Lee and James Vaughan.

“Coming into a club like Huddersfield is a great opportunity for me,” said Danns.

“They still have a chance of making the play-offs and I want to help them push on up the league.”

He added: “I haven’t just come here to help the team survive in the Championship. I have got my eyes set on helping the team get up back towards the play-offs.

“We are still in the mix with loads of games to play and thankfully I am feeling match fit after my loan at Bristol City. I enjoyed my time at City, but I am looking forward to this new challenge.”

Town have been linked with several other midfielders including Birmingham City’s Chris Burke and Aberdeen winger Ryan Fraser, while striker Kallum Higginbottom has been tipped to return to his native Scotland and join Motherwell.

Highly-rated Fraser, 18, who has turned down a new three-year deal at Pittodrie, will be out of contract in the summer.

The Dons will receive compensation for Fraser if he leaves in the summer, but are likely to consider any offers for him this month.

Hull City yesterday confirmed the signings of David Meyler and Robbie Brady on permanent deals from Sunderland and Manchester United respectively.

During loan spells with the club both have been instrumental in helping Steve Bruce’s said claim second place in the Championship table behind Cardiff City.

Midfielder Meyler, who has signed a three-and-a-half year deal and moved for a reported fee of £1.5m, has scored three times in 10 appearances since joining on loan in November.

Brady, who has committed himself to the same length contract, cost £2m. The Republic of Ireland international winger has been in impressive form during his third loan spell at the KC Stadium, scoring once in 12 games.

Shrewsbury have signed Sheffield United midfielder David McAllister on a two-and-half-year contract for an undisclosed fee.

The Irishman, 24, had a successful three month-loan spell in Shropshire last term.

On signing McAllister, who ironically scored the only goal of the game when United beat the Shrews 1-0 at Bramall Lane at the start of the season, Turner said: “Initially it was a surprise that they would sell him as he’s figured in a lot of their games. But I think the fact that he has been here and knows all about us helped in his decision to join us.”

Blades’ defender Matt Hill is set to be out for six weeks with a broken jaw, sustained in Saturday’s FA Cup win at Oxford. He joins Neill Collins and Shaun Miller on the sidelines.
