Guiseley were defeated for the second time in a week at Nethermoor Park as they lost 2-0 to a clinical Gateshead side, writes Tom Feaheny.

Manager Mark Bower was again left frustrated with the loss and said: “I thought the performance was better than last week but two bits of poor defending allowed them to get their goals. They were clinical.”

Guiseley’s Zac Thompson soon saw his well-struck effort saved by Sam Russell, who also parried a free-kick from Nicky Boshell, who sent another just over.

Just before half-time, Ryan Bowman was able to flick the ball past the home defence onto striker Danny Johnson, who raced away and tucked the ball past goalkeeper Dan Atkinson.

Gateshead started the better in the second half and Johnson found the back of the net after good work by Josh Gillies.

Will Hatfield’s effort was saved by the impressive Russell and substitute striker Adam Boyes headed wide when placed in a good position.

Guiseley travel to Chester today (3pm).

Guiseley: Dan Atkinson, Toulson, Lowe, Lockwood (C) (Parker 55), Rob Atkinson, Hatfield, Brooksby, Thompson, Lawlor, N Boshell, Craddock (Boyes 60). Unused substitutes: Drench and D Boshell
