Half term report: Sheffield Wednesday

Peter Shaw, of Filey, North Yorkshire

Except for the goalkeeper, we have been poor in every department. On the few occasions when we have played well with the ball, we have still been poor off the ball; consequently we consistently lose. We cannot score, we cannot defend balls played into the box, and we do not react quick enough to the second ball. We have continued to select 'off form' players in the wrong positions and the spine of the team is fragile. The team lacks resilience and mental strength to grind out results when confidence is low.

Are your team exceeding pre-season expectations or under-achieving? They are massively under-achieving as expectations were for a mid-table position to be achieved.

Hero? Lee Grant as he has been constantly kept busy.

Most disappointing player? Most of them – but Darren Purse in particular

Best moment? Beating Scunthorpe 4-0 in August.

Worst moment? The spineless, gutless performance against Swansea.

Best side faced? West Brom.

Worst side faced? Scunthorpe.

Is your manager doing a good job? Obviously he was not as Brian Laws has been relieved of his duties partly due to making poor decisions in the transfer and loan markets.

What has gone right/wrong this season? Nothing much has gone right but losing against Preston after a dominant performance badly affected confidence which has progressively deteriorated.

What activity is needed in the January transfer window? As an absolute minimum we need a new centre half, an athletic midfielder, and a striker who can score goals.

Where will your team finish? Depends on team investment and the right managerial appointment.
