Kidderminster 0 FC Halifax 0: Shaymen’s industry pleases Aspin

Neil Aspin admitted his FC Halifax Town side were the happier of the two teams after a 0-0 stalemate at fellow play-off hopefuls Kidderminster.

The draw leaves the Harriers with a lot of work to do to salvage a top-five finish, but The Shaymen remain on course for a play-off berth. They have a seven-point gap to bridge, but with five matches in-hand.

Aspin said: “It was more important in terms of league positions for Kidderminster to get thee points than us.

“We’re probably the happier of the two teams with a point, but I wouldn’t fault the work-rate of players on both sides, I thought they all put in a shift.

“But it was just very hard to get any quality out of the game.

“All the best performers were in defence for both teams.”

Halifax forward Richard Peniket had two penalty appeals waved away by referee Simon Bennett in an opening half of few chances, with both Peniket and Kidderminster forward Danny Wright having ‘goals’ chalked off for offside.

There was a dearth of chances from open play, but from a free-kick, Aman Verma struck a thunderbolt of a shot which stung the palms of Matt Glennon.

Kidderminster improved after the interval and nearly scored during a frantic goalmouth scramble after a poor clearance by Glennon.

Wright bore down on goal before Glennon made amends with a good save, but in the ensuing panic, Kidderminster claimed there was a handball as James Bolton cleared Lee Hughes’s effort off the line, Halifax somehow escaping unscathed.
