NATIONAL LEAGUE clubs have voted in favour of ending the 2019-20 campaign at its current point and cancelling all remaining fixtures.

Ninety per cent of clubs voted overwhelmingly in favour of ending the season immediately, even though the last few responses are yet to be received.

The League will now look to determine how to finish the season and solve the dispute over promotion and relegation, which stands to be a difficult task to complete given no club across the three leagues had yet guaranteed promotion.

That has implications for several Yorkshire sides involved, most notably Harrogate Town - who were in second place in the National League table and pushing for promotion to the Football League - while sixth-placed FC Halifax Town occupy a play-off slot.

Meanwhile, York City were two points clear at the top of the National League North, with King's Lynn having two games in hand.

Guiseley and Farsley Celtic were in play-off contention, with Bradford Park Avenue propping up the table.

The divisions have been suspended since March 16.

A National League statement said: "In the knowledge that the ordinary resolution has passed, the league's board has chosen to communicate the decision now and before the last few responses are received, which will not change the outcome, to enable clubs to make business decisions with greater clarity as soon as possible.

"Clubs yet to respond still have an opportunity to do so, and the league wishes to include as many preferences as possible before the final voting result is declared."

A statement issued by York read: "Today the National League confirmed that all remaining league matches for season 2019-2020 will be cancelled and that promotion and relegation outcomes are still being considered.

"Throughout the process York City FC has put forward a strong case to see promotions honoured and will continue to do so until a decision is made.

"Ending the campaign sitting at the top of the league and having endeavoured to play as many games as possible during the season, when it comes to voting on the sporting outcomes of the 2019-2020 league results, we are confident that the league and other clubs will take this key aspect into account.

"Thanks to our fans for their continued support. We'll share further information with fans when we receive it.

"Until then, stay safe and look after each other."
