Harrogate Town make Tom Walker their first Football League buy

Harrogate Town have triggered Tom Walker's release clause to make the midfielder their first buy of the summer.

Earlier this week the Football League's newest club signed Connor Kirby from Sheffield Wednesday and Jake Lawlor from Wrexham on free transfers.

Now they have added much-travelled 24-year-old England C international Walker, who joins from Fylde.

Walker started his career by making 18 Championship appearances for Bolton Wanderers, but has had to go down the pyramid in the north west to make his way back up.

Bolton loaned Walker to then-League One Bury, but his next permanent move was to FC United of Manchester.

From there he earned a move to Salford City, helping them go from Conference North into the Football League, and scoring a winning goal at home to Harrogate in January 2018.

A loan spell at Stockport County last season where he scored six goals in 15 Conference appearances earned a January move to Fylde, marking his debut with a goal.

But with Fylde relegated in the abbreviated season, Town manager Simon Wilder has moved in to bring Walker to Wetherby Road.

Walker was briefly a team-mate of Lawlor's at Salford, although the ball-playing centre-back never played for the Greater Manchester side. He will now look to strike up a partnership with Barnsley-born Kirby, who caught Weaver's eye on loan at Macclesfield Town last season before being released by the Owls.
